I haven't posted on this in literally years but here's an update on what I'm up to:

Something Wicked - A web serial about curses and friends and secrets and adventure! Started in October, updates Mon/Wed.

The Pinwheel Lab - My website! I write essays and post art there sometimes.

My book! - It's a hardboiled novel, but with magic! I haven't posted any excerpts yet, but maybe someday.

I posted one of my slightly older stories, a wRHG battle against Sadko. Normally, I wouldn't post wRHG battles, because they're more vignettes than actual stories. However, there's a bit more going on with this one, so I thought I'd post it up and then write up some comments.

This is a companion to "Jasper vs. Sadko", which you should read for context before jumping into this. I'll be talking about wRHG as a platform in general, then some plot development.

(And no, I haven't seen Chinatown. I really should, though.)

Title: Addiction

Author: Jessepinwheel

Date: December 2012

Summary: I write about writing in comic format.

A/N: This is a project I did back in high school for my Graphic Novels final project, so it shouldn't surprise you that this is a comic. There's an essay attached to it, too, if you're into that.

One of my favorite words in the English language is "defenestration", largely because it exists.

The great thing about a dedicated writing blog is that now instead of yapping at specific people about my writing, I can yap into the aether and self-indulgently talk about stuff nobody cares about.

This set of essays is a companion to my short story, "Apples and Cinnamon", which you should read for context before reading this (also because it's a nice story and it would make me feel fuzzy). I'll be discussing origins, thought processes in (re)writing, style, symbolism, interpretation, and themes, so whenever you're ready, go ahead and hit the jump.

Title: Jasper vs. Sadko

Author: Jessepinwheel

Word Count: 2,400

Date: March 2014

Warnings: Violence?

Summary: A hitman moves in for the kill, but little does he know, Jasper is ready for him.

A/N: This is a wRHG battle on StickPage, and both entries can be viewed here. A little bit of the language has been tidied up here, but the two versions are basically the same. The characters are:

Jasper (Jessepinwheel): Mental sense, bladed bow, knife, can create extensions of his body with shadows

Sadko (Sadko): Guns, knives, prophesying, sense disabling

Commentary: Chinatown

Title: To Hell and Back

Author: Jessepinwheel

Date: April 2015

Summary: A modern remix of the myth of Persephone and Hades in which the gods are instead influential people. A stage play in three parts.

A/N: I wrote this for a project in Theatre 101 in which we had to write, practice, and perform a 7-10 minute play based on a fairy tale or myth. We ended up choosing the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades, or more specifically the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, which you can read about here if you so desire. Knowledge of the myth isn't necessary, though.

Title: Apples and Cinnamon

Author: Jessepinwheel

Word Count: 6,500
Date: June 2015

Warnings: Brief discussion of suicide, death in general

Summary: Two acquaintances come to terms with the death of a mutual close friend.

A/N: This story is based on ErrorBlender's Past Projection entry in the Valley of Dreams tournament that I hosted a while back on the StickPage Writer's Lounge, readable here (first story), but all characters here are my own. You don't have to have read that story to understand this one.
Commentary: Sugar and Spice

Hello, introductions. I'm Jessepinwheel, and I make stuff. I've been writing since 2005-ish, and I like talking about storytelling and creative work. I also occasionally write stories, most of which have supernatural elements.

Here's what to expect:

Short stories and not-so-short stories (Both original and fan fiction)

Commentary on above (Mostly things I've been thinking about in the process of writing)

Musings on writing/storytelling in general

Shameless self-promotion

If you're interested in writing, then cool—I am, too! You're in the right place.

If you're interested in art or animation, that's cool, too. You'll be wanting my DeviantArt instead.

Personal posts are more likely to be on my DeviantArt journal than here. I like to keep my stuff in their own places.
